Elys Chemical Industries Ltd is a Kenyan pharmaceutical manufacturer established in 1961 as a retail pharmacy. It entered manufacturing in 1976 and moved to its current purpose-built, modern factory in Nairobi’s Industrial Area in August 1982. Today it is a fully-fledged cGMP-compliant company producing over 100 generic medicines in tablets, capsules, oral liquids, dry syrups, sachets, creams and ointments for the Kenyan and East African markets.
**Company History
The company’s origins are in a retail pharmacy which started in 1961. The pharmacy business developed into a wholesale set up and in 1976 started manufacturing, doing simple formulations. The manufacturing operations proved to be very successful and in August 1982, the company moved into a modern, well laid out and custom built factory in Industrial Area. The last 15–20 years have seen tremendous development and expansion in terms of manpower, machinery and product range to become a fully fledged pharmaceutical manufacturing company.
